Show OPPOSED PRIVATE CAR LINES. Favored Law Compelling Publication of Refrigerator-Car Rate Schedule. WASHINGTON. Jan 31. E. M. Ferguson Fergu-son of Duluth, Minn., before tho Senato Interstate Commcrco committee today spoke of alleged discriminations by railroads rail-roads In favor of operators of refrigerator ear lines. He offered a numbor of lotters showing the Impossibility of getting from railroads definite Information as to railroad rates on perishable goods, for the reason that no llxed rate was given In advance -for refrigeration. Ho udvocated the Uxlng by law of all charges In relation to refrigeration re-frigeration and the publication of theso rates tho same as freight schedules are published. In answer to tho charge that It was the Jobbers and not tho fruit growers that were making the f.ght against prlvato car lines, he read letters from fruit growers asking him to suggest plans "for getting after Congressmen nnd the Senators" and urging thnt If Congress adjourned without with-out action to "petition the President to call an extra session." Ho favored tho plan of making It unlawful unlaw-ful for railroads to carry goods In nny but tholr own cars or In the cars of some other railroad. Mr. Ferguson will conclude his statement state-ment tomorrow Ho announced that ho would disclose the details of a secret routing schemo which he alleged Is maintained main-tained by the railroads. |
