Show Layf on Canal 1 Back On TracEi - - - ; :YT0N - The Layton ' fid extension from West i to Layton is apparently '.on track after an informal 3 C::ment was reached be- i n Weber Basin Water 3 " iervancy District officials " 'the Davis County Com-ion. Com-ion. EBER BASIN has agreed jonsor the 7-mile exten-Droject, exten-Droject, but Davis County ictuaJy pay for the con-ion con-ion through a $1,3 mil-construction mil-construction loan ived by the State Division cj.lter Resources. :o i'der the agreement, Davis jTty will repay the loan at JSute of $100,000 per year. This money is expected to come from the county's two-mill two-mill property tax levy, it was explained. MEANWHILE, according to the agreement, Davis County Coun-ty will be able to use the canal as a major storm water collection collec-tion channel. Weber Basin agreed to this after a study showed that the drain water would not alter the quality of water that Weber Basin supplies sup-plies as irrigation water to the farmers in the area. The county will begin construction con-struction on the expansion later la-ter this summer, according to County Commission Chairman Chair-man Glen W. Flint, and the project should be completed for use next spring. WHEN COMPLETED, ownership of the canal will revert re-vert to Weber Basin, the sponsoring spon-soring agency but Davis County Coun-ty will continue to make annual payments. It was determined that the county commission could legally leg-ally obligate subsequent commissions com-missions to repay the long-term long-term contract. Other minor stumbling blocks concerning the canal expansion are also being worked out, commissioners commis-sioners explained, grb |
