Show Extended Phone Service Goes Into Effect In Davis County By GARY R. BLODGETT FARMINGTON The long-awaited extended telephone tele-phone service to Davis County subscribers has finally arrived. BEGINNING last Sunday, the extended-area service featuring a new electonic switching system was implemented im-plemented by Mountain Bell Telephone Co. At the same time, a general rate hike for the extended service ser-vice went into effect on Sunday, Sun-day, according to Ken Hill, public relations director for Mountain Bell. THE CHANGES that took place included extension of iocal service between Farmington Farm-ington and Murray, including parts of Salt Lake City, said Mr. Hill Previously, it was a long distance (toll call) from Farmington to any portion of Salt Lake City. A second phase of the extension exten-sion project which will enable en-able countywide calling in Davis County will not be implemented for about 18 months, in January 1982, Mr. Hill explained. BOTH EXTENDED service orders were made by the Utah Public Service.Commission in June 1979. Meanwhile, the PSC recently recent-ly approved a 7.9 percent general gen-eral rate increase for all Mountain Moun-tain Bell customers of Utah. This authorization was made by the PSC last month and will appear soon on telephone bill- ings throughout the state. AND ALONG with the changes and improvements, customers telephoning residents resi-dents of Farmington must remember re-member to dial a new prefix number that went into effect Sunday. The 867 prefixes will be changed to 451, said Mr. Hill. He also noted that the new system will allow I-arminglon customers to have improved customer-calling features, including in-cluding callforwarding. speed calling, call waiting and three-way three-way calling, previously not available. MR. HILL said information sent as an insert to all hills of customers of the Davis County area will further explain the changes and new rate charges. Bountiful. Farmington. Murray and the parts of Salt Lake City involved in the extended ex-tended telepone service will be charged a higher rate, based on the number of additional exchanges ex-changes that can be called loll-free, loll-free, in addition to the overall general rate hike which affects all Utah customers of Mountain Moun-tain Bell service. ALSO, Bountiful customers will pay a higher (regular) fee than before although they will not be able to call any additional addition-al exchanges, Mr. Hill explained, ex-plained, but its basic rate was approved by the PSC for an increase because of additional services it has received in recent re-cent years. |
