Show ieyiniaSSiioll tosittw is Sfcetay By DAVE VVIGHAM BOUNTIFUL This Saturday, Aug. 9, Bountiful city golf course will be hosting their annual Amateur tournament tourna-ment which has become one of the top tournaments on the local loc-al ciruit in recent vears. THE TOURNAMENT itself is divided into two divisions according to handicaps with the championship flight taking those handicappers from 0-11 and then the first flight taking those 12-22. All participants must have a current card to participate. If you are looking for any favorites in the annul affair then look no further than one of their" own staff George Rackham. Although there is no real cut favorite for this 1 8 hole event George would certainly have to get some notice since he is so familiar with the course. PLUS THE fact that this has been a fairly good year for Mr. Rackham, he was second in the Davis Ameature a couple of weeks ago loosing the title in a sudden death playoff. In the MDS tournament this past year he placed sixth in his flight and this past weekend he placed fourth in the Bountiful club championship. Family Treed "Sir, I'll have you understand under-stand that I'm related to the Boones." "Oh, yes, now I remember. Your grandmother's first' name was Bab." He is very capable of shooting shoot-ing subpar rounds on his home course, in the MDA tournament tourna-ment he was four under going into number 15 but after bogeys on the last holes he finished with a par 7 1 . His best efforts ever have been a 31 on the front nine and a 33 on the back, that means he could very well shoot a 64 or seven under for the round. His best ever for 18 holes is a 67. GEORGE HAS always been known for his length of the tees, he's one of the long ball hitters in the state. Each drive is approximately around the 275 yard mark, I've always been long because of my size" noted the 22 year old 6'3" University Uni-versity of Utah student. He began playing this game called golf at the age of nine because his parents played alot. "Mother has always been really good but then dropped out of golf for a few years due to an injury. Prior to that she had a 13 handicap. Dad never played much but he's a great weekend player." HE HAS a good record on his course, in the club championship cham-pionship he placed second three years ago, he won the title two years ago then last year he lost in a playoff for the title. As mentioned he was fourth this past weekend. His familarity with the course will be a big asset when names like Vance Christiansen and Doug Bybee come into town to play, "Knowing the greens is the biggest asset plus knowing the distances and where trouble is and how to stay out of it helps." NO ONE is saying that George Rackham is going to win the title this Saturday but with his dknowledte and past record on the course he would certainly have to be considered consi-dered a darhourse at least. |
