FISHER "There is nothing more fulfilling ful-filling than family life," Mrs. JoAnn Nord said when notified noti-fied that their family had been chosen to receive the "Family of the Year" award to be given at the third annual banquet of the Utah Association of Women. "And the thing we find most fulfilling about family fami-ly life is each other!," she added. THE AWARD is to be given Mr,, and Mrs. Lewis V. Nord, Bountiful, at the UA of W banquet ban-quet to be held at the Tri-Arc Travelodge in Salt Lake City on Friday, April 25. This will be one of the highlights of the Association's two-day annual conference. The conference will begin with a general meeting on Friday Fri-day afternoon followed by the banquet and an all-day session of workshops on Saturday, April 26 at the Skyline High School in Salt Lake City. FEATURED speakers will be Mrs. Frances Burtenshaw, 1979 National Mother of the Year; Mrs. Josephine Oaks, 1972 National Young Mother of the Year; and U.S. Senator Orrin G. Hatch. Workshop sessions will include in-clude such notables as Judge John Farr Larson, Dr. Nathan B. Winters and Susan Winters, Gary Brockbank, Scott Donaldson, Vira H. Judge, Robert Baird, Shirley Whit-lock, Whit-lock, Dr. Terrance C. Olson, Dr. Ron Leavitt, Christine Watters, Dr. Brent Miller, Maurine Brimhall, Jerry. Seil' er, Carvel Shaffer, David .S. Porter, Rex E. Lee, Dr. Mar-chall Mar-chall Dreuter, Clavel Ray, Atty. Gen. Robert B. Hansen, Anita Bradford, Georgia Peterson, Dr. Gary Sandquist, Dr. Tom Jones, Dr. Donald Strassburg, Jaynann Payne and David Irvine. They will teach a variety of subjects during dur-ing the workshop. THE NORD family, who reside re-side at 826 Woodmoor Circle, are very deserving of the "Family of the Year" award and were highly recommended for it by their neighbors and others. In fact, they won the "Good Neighbor" award as a family in the Bountiful area in 1968. Carolyn Dunn Newman spoke of their remarkable marriage mar-riage relationship and the high caliber of their children. Dr. W. Dean Belnap praised their ideals of Americanism. Comm. Morris F. Swapp said," The world would be a much better place to live if we all had the Nord family as our neighbors." MRS. ARDETH G. Kapp said, "the whole family carries on a quiet consistent concern for people who need to be lifted and strengthened. They reach goals only dreamed of by many because they have a reservoir re-servoir of strength and power to which each one has contributed." Mr and Mrs. Lewis V. Both parents and their children chil-dren consistently contribute their services to church, civic and family programs and projects. pro-jects. Mr. Nord, who is president presi-dent of Nord Advertising Co. is also a guide on Temple Square, is a high priest in the Bountiful 29th Ward, and serves in the presidency of the Stake Sunday School. He is also a director of the Rocky Mountain State Bank and the Land Investment Association and Pyramid Corp. MRS. NORD has served as a teacher, counselor and president presi-dent of the Young Women's organization in her ward; was Relief Society Cultural Refinement Refine-ment leader and Primary president presi-dent for 15 years and Boy Scout leader and Guide Patrol leader for five years. Of the six children born to them, five are living and they now have a son and daughter-in-law and four grandchildren. They are: Brad and Susan Green, and their children, Matthew, Marie and Micah, Centerville; Rick and Mia Nord and their son, Thayne, Salt Lake City; and Tina, Joni and Brett, and their foster Navajo son, Darryl Davis. "WE FEEL children need a balanced life so in our home, he have tried to expose them and help them to fill their spiritual, cultural, physical, educational and social needs and to teach them the importance im-portance of service and love to others," JoAnn Nord said in speaking of her outstanding family. "The major reason we recommended re-commended them for the award, is their high quality relationship re-lationship between husband and wife and they and their children and their high level of support and loyalty to each other," Susan Tomlinson and Judy Larsen, Bountiful, UAW members commented. |
