West High found the County to their liking this past week as the Panthers came up winners over Bountiful, Viewmont, and Woods Cross. First the West crew went into extra innings in-nings before they downed the stubborn Braves 4-3. BOUNTIFUL coach Phil Olsen noted his team played well but many of their hits were hard but right at people. For the Braves Mike Haslam, Jim Hill and Jim Perkins all had two hits apiece.The Bountiful club then bounced back with a 6-2 win over Highland on Friday Fri-day with Kevin Beyer getting the win and Jason Elg the save. In this outing Kent Bagshaw, Kevin Stitt, Rob Hadley, Craig Lee, Hill and Perkins all had hits with Hadley and Lee coming com-ing up with triples. Viewmont started the week off on the right foot with a 5-2 win over rival Woods Cross as the Vikings took advantage of some walks and errors coupled with some key hits to build up a 5-0 lead after two innings and then coasted in from there. In the Friday contest the Vikes lost their first game of the year to West by a score 4-2. Russ Cannon, Frank Putnam, Steve Knighton, Mike Ellis and Kyle Morrell all had hits for the Vikings Vik-ings with Morrell getting a home run in the fifth inning. ON WEDNESDAY the Vikes played a practice game and handed Granger a 7-2 loss U with Rob Moosman getting the win and Curtis Holt the save Brian Skidmore, Mike Bar-nett, Bar-nett, Russ Cannon and Frank Putnam all had key hits in the win. After dropping the first game to Viewmont on Tuesday the Woods Cross club were knocked off by West 7-6 on Wednesday in a make up game. Coach Val Cullimore noted that it was just a case of his club getting the big hits early ear-ly m the game and the Panthers getting them in the later stages. For the Wildcats they saw Ed Kent, Kent Haywoods and Mike Brinkerhoff all come up with a couple of hits. The Cats then got in the win column on Friday with a 5-4 win over Li South with Roger Lowe bnng-mg bnng-mg in the winning run on a squeeze bunt. BRAD HILL and Wes Johnson John-son both had key doubles in the win while Dave Draper threw the last six innings allowing only two hits and striking out 6. Coach Cullimore Culli-more was also pleased that they committed no errors. West is on t0p with a 3-0 record, re-cord, then comes Bountiful and Viewmont at 2-1, Woods Cross and South have 1-2 marks while Highland is w in-less in-less at 0-3. Things could unwind un-wind this week as the big battle pits Bountiful against Viewmont View-mont on Friday. |
