Show Spring Fishing At It's Best Creel census information has revealed excellent fishing success at Lake Powell. According to Utah Division of Wildlife Resources fisheries biologists stationed at Lake Powell, fishermen are getting excellent results fishing for crappie and largemouth bass. After spending many days questioning fishermen to tabulate tabu-late the number and kinds of fish caught, the biologists concluded con-cluded fishing success is probably prob-ably better now than it will be for the rest of the year. FISHING HAS improved because warming water temperature tem-perature has caused the crappie crap-pie and largemouth bass to move into shallow water in preparation to spawn. Once this response is triggered, the fish are more active, aggressive aggres-sive and easier to catch. Crappie Crap-pie have started to spawn, but the water is still a bit too cold for the largemouth bass. Fishing should continue to be excellent for the next four weeks. Creel census information, gathered in previous years, indicates in-dicates that during the month of April fishermen have the j best fishing success of the year, and this year looks no I different. Lake Powell is open to angling year-round, 24 hours a day. i I |
