Show Hrc Clacs All Yhe Way By DAVE WIGHAM Last week this reporter had the opportunity to attend the first National Basketball Association game in this state when the new Utah Jazz took on the Milwaukee Bucks. THIS WAS a great moment in sports history for the sports fan in Utah. Imagine, the NBA with all their big names coming into Salt Lake City so that we can go see them. First thing that got to me was the type of organization of the Jazz. Believe me they are first class all the way. They take care of the press in the best way possible. EVEN THE weekly newspapers, that are often overlooked by some professional teams, are treated like they mean something to this organization. Dave Freed-manand Freed-manand his staff do a great job in making the press feel comfortable and welcomed. Then to sit there and see all these guys that have been television stars only to most of us in Utah, to come out before your very eyes is unreal. I mean to see the likes of Kent Benson of Indiana, Marques Johnson and Richard Washington of UCLA, Pete Maravich of LSU, and James Hardy of San Francisco in real life is a thrill in itself. THESE GUYS were always on television, fighting for a national collegiate title - now to see them do their thing a few feet in front of your eyes is something of a dream world. If the best game you have seen has been a college game or even the WBA of last year then go seeahd support this NBA franchise. It's a different world all together. IF YOU think the difference between high school and college is vast, then check out the difference between tee guys and the college stuff. Both have something to offer. As for the Jazz themselves, they are a young club but one that always hustles and tries. Sure they are a few Players and years away from a championship caliber operation, but they are exciting to watch. |
