"The King and I" is a fast-moving, fast-moving, entertaining musical drama featuring some of the brightest songs to ever come from the Broadway stage, "Shall We Dance," "Whistle A Happy Tune," "Hello Young Lovers," and many, many others. THE STORY deals with an English schoolmarm hired by the King of Siam to tutor his many children. The plot is built around the frustrations and conflicts resulting from " "differing"lirestylesand the Charming, entertaining solutions solu-tions to those conflicts. "The King and I" is the third major theatrical project to come from the Bountiful Utah East Stake. The first was the very successful "Annie "An-nie Get Your Gun," followed by a beautifully directed and performed "Our Town." "The King and I" is being directed by Beth Lawrence with Allen Chatelain as the musical director and orchestra orches-tra conductor. The production is under the direction of Wayne Moore, producer. Linda Lin-da Trinnaman, whose choreography st'ile the -now in "Annie Get Your Gun," returns re-turns to this same assignment in the "King and I." THE SETS wflfj'cfetlglieaj and built by Si&TSjeanoianyi who has-designed sets for "Annie," the Bountiful Community Com-munity Theater, and other major stage productions in Bountiful and Salt Lake City. Costume designer is Marge Clayton and the stage manager is Janell Bemis. Grace Henderson is directing the pre-show segment with LuAnn Gillette assisting. The show features an excellent ex-cellent cast of actors, singers, and dancers. The King will be played by Lorin Martin, who created some great high spots in "Annie" with his portrayal of Chief Sitting Bull. Ann will be played by Winefred Merritt who brings an exciting excit-ing level of dramatics and singing to the role. . LADY CHIANG will be played by Marietta Walker, a talented, experienced performer per-former who has played lead roles in musical comedies on the professional stage. The show producers have suggested a voluntary donation dona-tion of $2 a person or $8 a family, Tickets will be available at the door and also at the Bountiful Utah Stake Wards and from cast members. Performances will be on the nights of Nov. 15, 16 and 17. The audience is requested to be seated by 7:30 p.m. The show is being presented as a community project and the public is invited. |
