' Hospital Takes Delivery on $24,700 Accounting System A new Burroughs L-5000 L-5000 accounting system is being installed this week at Allen Memorial Hospital. Hospi-tal. The equipment, which replaces an obsolete Burroughs Bur-roughs Sensimatic mechanical mech-anical accounting machine, mach-ine, is being purchased with Revenue Sharing funds at a cost of $24. 700. The new system w ill pro-ride pro-ride computer recall of information. and will streamline office procedures proce-dures in the hospital. Currently being put into operation is the patient accounting system. All new admissions are being be-ing put on the new machine, ma-chine, and record conversions con-versions will take placv un utiles in ine tuiuie.' The system will also handle general ledger, in--come statements, ac- counts receivable, payroll pay-roll and other procedures. proce-dures. Gary Beres, Burroughs Zone Sales Manager, Colorado Co-lorado Springs, and Davis Watson, Burroughs Territory Ter-ritory Manager, Grand Junction, are here to supervise su-pervise installation and "" train office personnel in use of the machine. The study of alternatives alter-natives in accounting procedures pro-cedures at the hospital was undertaken by the Hospital Board several years ago, and the decision de-cision to go ahead with purchase of the new equipment was made this summer, according to Hospital Board Chairman Adrien Taylor. One of the factors in the decision to purchase this equipment was that the office staff could be reduced by one person. A study made by Mesa, an engineering firm specializing spe-cializing in hospital research re-search and education, this year showed that a number num-ber of changes in procedures pro-cedures in the office could substantially improve operation op-eration and reduce time and labc. t jsts. The -ep 't commented that the business office could be operated with three people and still get all the work done at the current and even an increased in-creased work load level. The Mesa engineers have also studied and made recommendations for changes in nursing, kitchen, laundry and maintainance departments depart-ments of the hospital. |
