Show Utah Trail Seekers Retrace Death Valley Route William Flanlgan, enthusiastic Cedar City explorer, In company with Robert Pace, Thistle, completed com-pleted a most Interesting excursion excur-sion last week, when they followed fol-lowed as nearly as possible the 1849 Death Valley route from Ce-dar Ce-dar City to Death Valley, Calif. The two men are now urging that some organization undertake a project of marking the Death Valley route. The two men left Cedar City on Sunday, Nov. 6, and arrived in Death Valley in time for the annual encampment, Nov. 10 through 13, making the trip, which took the original party nearly three month, In four days of travel by jeep. Mr. Flanlgan points' out that some residents of the area are familiar with the route taken by the party because of contacts with earjy settlers, but because of the age of these people he feels that it is urgent that the trail be marked soon before the Information needed is lost forever. for-ever. As far as is known Mr. Flanl-gan Flanl-gan and Mr. Pace are the only two people ever to retrace the route taken by the ill-fated 1819 party. |
