Show tx YEAR OF SPLENDID ACTIVITY IS i REVEALED IN REPORT ISSUED BY I CHILDREN'S AID SOCIETY OF OGDEF t 'lDear Everybody: My, but we missed you .ill you dear good people who didn't come to our birthday party, Lor we had the happiest time, Rev. Godfrey Matthews in his usual convincing con-vincing way told us all just why this . .vork was such a blessed privilege. Then Judge Sullivan told us about the boys and girls here in Ogden, who are real problems to this city of ours, and oh how we longed to gather in all the mothers and fathers and have them hear this appeal for help, for it is in the home we all know that the principles of right living should be .taught, anu as we all listened to Judge Sullivan, it seemed so worth i ' while to be helping to keep homes to- I - gcther, and we fairly ached with the !s longing to help, and help, and help. . We had such beautiful music, too, to help soften the stern realities that confronted us, for figures are very convincing, and the reports showed there had been an earnest striving on our part with your wonderful help to aileviatc a little of the misery and squrlor right here in our beloved city. Then Mayor Francis gave us such a comforting talk. Somehow ne has the gift of doing just that, and we were, so glad that he found so much to) praise, for his sincerity is alwnys so, apparent, and we felt deep in our; hearts that "Our Mayor" was indeed the Children's Aid Society's very guud j friend, and then the splenuid nour iu- gether when around the little tables' with their beautiful flowers we had "the little heart-to-heart talks, and you.i of so many of you, told us with the J tears standing in your eyes, that you never dreamed the need was so great, I or that such things could terrible thing's happened in big cities, and you knew that tornoic poverty and dis-tres, dis-tres, and lack was in far-off war rld-'y rld-'y den Europe, but, oh, it seemed impossible im-possible that beautiful Ogden had such a stain on her fair fabric of city life, but, oh, you don't know, dear people, you don't know, and we wanted you . all to come yesterday to the Berihana .. U ..... ..I .1 1 U.. 1.i.a ..K nnmn! will tell you about it. Ask some one who was there We were sorry wc forgot to mention a little woman whe has cared for forty of our little ojies, and she deserves honorable mention surely there was so much we could have told you had time permitted, some beautiful things, too, for we have them often, and the word love holds a new meaning for you when once you have given your heart to this work, and after a strenuous back-breaking, heart-breaking day, there comes a peace that passeth all understanding and you catch the refrain as of sweet "Inasmuch as ye have done it unto to the least of these, my bretnren, e have done it unto to me," and we have learned why ' .t is more blessed to give than "receive. Come and v isit our dispensary any Saturday after noon. We will make you so welcome, and gladly answer any questions, and don't you remember we have told you in everyone of our letters to you, that it really and trly is your work, too. Would you like to hear more of our woi. Let us know in some waj. Sincerely, CHILDREN'S AID SOCIETY, Elizabeth Shaw, Hess, Sec. P. S. September 2nd, 3rd and -1th, - --- 1919, a clinic ...s held at the dis pensary where 70 children were exam luted by a physician oculist and dent 1st, then weighed and measured by nurse. Doctors' and nurses service! were generously donated and could j money value be placed on this ser vice, would be over two hundred am fifty dollars, so it can readily be seer how indebted we arc to these splendit helpers. For the ninteen operations per formed during the year all doctors' ser vices were donated and the hospita generously gives us a splendid rebate During year 52 children have beer taken to dentists and oculists, AI work requiring lawyers and notaries has been generously donated by same We wish time permitted details ol fall contributions, for they have beeu jmany, and prchaps a woVd of ex I pianation in regard to new merchan jdise purchased might be of interest. I You perhaps wonder why we have had j to buy so many new things this year, (but if we have no old ' available, wc j must purchase new, and the various drives for Belgian Relief, Red Cross, etc., have taken all the supplies of old clofhcs. Then, too, we presume people peo-ple arc wearing their own things as i long as possible on account of the high cost so th. . this year has been a ery heavy one with us in regard to buying new clothes, i Many of the poor families we have actually kept in clothing this year. Children come regularly for help. Some of these children are fatherless and not old enough to work. Seven eighths of our dispensary cases .ir widows with children who arc earnest ly trying to keep a little home together to-gether and keep children in schoo! and It has beon a big part of our work-helping work-helping them to do this. If by chance there is a fathor, he is usually sickly and our .p is only temporary. A close watch and check is kept on all applicants for assistance and although al-though once in i while we are imposed upon. It is the exception and not the : i ii it-. i Grows With City. ? As our beloved city grows this work i grows also, and only by the people's , generosity and real interest and help i cati we hope to go one, but It is work I that must be done by someone and , this organization is for the purpose of ! doing this, systematically, intelligent . ly and economically, but to do this the society must have the co-operation of city state and individual, for without this help in every way the results cannot can-not be what they should. In giving you this report we have hoped to arouse a keen interest, for we are never nev-er interested in the thing we know not of, and as you have no way of knowing except through a report of this kind,' we aie very glad indeed to be able: to present these facts to you. ; During the year we have spept for milk over ?1 50.00 For board and care of children.
