Show 1 Governor Refuses to Let Mexicans Cross AUSTIN. Texas, April 24. Request of the Mexican government through . the state department at Washington Cor permission for Generals Juan Joae Rios and Manuel Gamboa. and their staffs to cross Texas soil on their way from Sonora to Mexico City, was refused re-fused by Governor Hobby of Texas, tonight.- The party was to travel unarmed un-armed as civilians. The state department depart-ment saw no objection to granting permission and asked the acquiescence acquies-cence of Texas to the request. Governor Hobby, replying to a telegram tele-gram from Secretary of State Colby, said he was "unalterably opposed lo the transportation of Mexican troops or any military officials thereof across Texas soil." Such transportations, he said, "would likely provoke trouble" and put American citizens on the border , at the mercy of the bandits. |
