April 24. expressing satisfaction at the action of tho San Remo conference of allied premiers in recognizing the independence of the Armenians, James W. Gerard, chairman chair-man of tho American committee for the Independence of Armenia, said today: "We are asking now for sufficient arms from the Unite'u States to equip an army of 50,000 Armenians." "We do not ask for American troops, only Insofar as they may be necessary to guard these arms from the seacoast until thoy are delivered to the Armenians Ar-menians in the mountains of the interior, inte-rior, " said Mr. Gerard.
