Show LOGAN OUTLINES IMPROVEMENTS rrogress Platform" of 21 Planks Prepared by Chamber Cham-ber of Commerce LOGAN, April 21. The big "Progress "Prog-ress Platform" of the Logan Chamber of Commerce, with twenty-one planks for the improvement of the commu-nfty, commu-nfty, has just been issued by Secretary M R. Hovey of the cahmber. following follow-ing approva'l of the platform by the board of directors and the chamber as a whole. This plntform was drafted by the officers of the chamber upon a biisis of suggestions furnished by the membership of the club. It covers nearly every phase of community life. In order that it be a live platform, either eith-er standing or special committees have been appointed to look after every plank. A summary of the complete platform is as follows: ! Planks for Program of -Work for Chamber Cham-ber of Commerce for 1920. Logan Municipal Light Plant: The improvement and enlargement of the Logan municipal light plant. Parking and Sidewalks, Etc : A movement to be made to have all sidewalks side-walks parked where the curb and gutter gut-ter has been constructed. Conduct a paint-up and clean-up movement, and have all unsightly fences removed. Clean up back of business blocks. Sewer Extensions: Have the sewer extended, especially in that part of the city commonly known as the Island. Is-land. For sanitary and other reasons, this is very necessary. Auto Camping Grounds: Provide for auto camping grounds as near in the city as possible. Siich .a place with the propore location and convenience will be an added inducement for .tourists .tour-ists to remain in our city. Telephone Service: Keep a check on the telephone service and see that the public as well as the company gets a square deal. Home Building: Encourage the building of more homes to take care of the people who desire to locate here and the many students who desire to attend our schools. Improvement to Soldiers' Memorial Park Lend the city all the aid possible pos-sible in acquiring the necessary property prop-erty and improving the site of a suitable suit-able soldiers' memorial park. I Extension of Street Pavement and Removal of Poles from Center of Streets: Work for the extension of the street pavement in the city, especially espe-cially up either Fourth or Fifth North to the Agricultural college. Also for the removal of all poles from the center cen-ter of the streets in order to get the proper grades for tho roads and to make the streets more beautiful. Improvement of Cemetery: work for a landscape plane for the cemetery where the.ro will be uniformity and the lots and roads will be kept in good condition. con-dition. There Is no more beautiful or better site In the country for a cemetery ceme-tery than we have at Logan. An auditorium audi-torium should be provided where memorial me-morial services may be held. Work for good roads and walks leading to and in tho cemetery. Public Playground: Make the public pub-lic playground a bigger movement. It was a great success last year. Help to secure more equipment and make sure that the play is supervised. New Theater: Encourage the erection erec-tion of a new theater commensurate with the city and county. It is needed badly. Chautauqua and Lyceum: Co-oper ate with local colleges in bringing good lyceum numbers here. Have the chamber cham-ber take a stand as to whether a Chautauqua Chau-tauqua shall receive a guarantee in order or-der to bring it to Logan. Bad Checks: Make war against the writing of bad checks. Tie Yards: Arrange for suitable tie yards. Roads: Early completion of state highway. Work for better roads all over the country. Good roads from one town to another is one of the most necessary nec-essary things before us. Work for the early completion of the Logan canyon road. Athletics: Work for baseball, public pub-lic tennis colurts, golf course, and handball court. Establish a business men's class in physical education at the Logan high school, or some other convenient place. Drainage and Irrigation Projects. Co-operate with the Cache county farm bureau and Agricultural college in drainage and irrigation projects In the v alloy. Advertising: Advertise Logan and the county with an attractive folder. Also Logan canyon and other canyons can-yons In the county that will attract tourists. Mall Orders: Attack the mail order system. Conduct a "buy at homo" campaign. More School Funds: Work for constitutional con-stitutional amendment which provides an equal amount throughout the state for each school child for education. |
