Show Lake Powell runoff ' A b o v e' 'L a V e r a g e precipitation in May has increased the runoff forecast for Lake Powell to 150 percent of normal, according to the June River Flow Advisory. The lake should fill this year for the first time. The Water and Power Resources Service may open the Glen Canyon Dam spillway gates to slow the filling rate as the reservoir approaches elevation 3,700 feet. Boaters and fishermen downstream should be aware that releases will be much higher than normal. Flows will usually be more than 20,000 cfs and could reach 50,000 cfs during the next several weeks. Forecasts for flows below dams operated by Water and Power Resources Service are: COLORADO RIVER ABOVE LAKE POWELL Colorado River at Westwater Canyon the flow is now30,000 cfs and is expected to reach about 40,000 cfs around the third week of June. Cataract Canyon (including the Green River) the present flow of 48,000 cfs is expected to peak at approximately 60,000 cfs around the third week of June. UPPER GREEN RIVER Fontenelle Reservoir the reservoir is at elevation 6,504 feet. The present release of 5,000 cfs will decrease as the inflow decreases. The inflow is expected to be about normal. GREEN RIVER AT GREEN RIVER, UTAH The' Green River is flowing at 18,000 cfs. This is expected to peak at approximately 30,000 cfs around the middle of June. GREEN RIVER BELOW FLAMING GORGE DAM The current elevation of Flaming Gorge is 6,013 feet, and is expected to increase to 6,026 feet this summer. Releases are expected to be below normal in June and July. |
