Show HUMAN RELATIONSHIPS Bits and pieces By Erraa Jean Lee "We are friends. I want nothing from you, and you want nothing from me. We share life." Kahlil Gibran. Dear Readers, Hi! This morning I saw a local boy with burns on his face. It seems a neighbor boy had held the hot remains of a popped firecracker against his cheek, scarring it with two holes. If you hear firecrackers popping off in your neighborhood, please find out where your young children are. Firecrackers may be safe, but some of the people who use them aren't too careful. Don't let your child get burned or maimed by these supposedly harmless har-mless explosive objects. Our economic situation can be depressing for some, but for others, it has become a challenge to find other ways of obtaining money for desirable commodities. One of our local senior citizens tells me that her club was running out of funds, so they've hired out to work at a concession stand for a local stock show, working in shifts so they won't tire too quickly. How are they doing? Lovely! She says they're much happier knowing that the money is being earned by their own efforts with the own hands. Good luck to all your hardworking Golden Agers ! A local school wants more playground equipment. The P.T.A. found a way to make some climbing structures out of logs, so they're hauling their own and asking for volunteers to help out. If you'd like to help them save money, give them a call: 789-3328 or 789-5977. Autos are part of youthful self-esteem. self-esteem. The skill and daring of the driver and the endurance and speed of the car seem to make one feel more grown up, more like a man or woman. Salt Lake City Police, tired of the drag racing on State Street, encouraged en-couraged the building of a race track. Now, young men trying to prove their prowess behind the wheel can do it legally out on the salt flats, and race the police cars to their hearts' content. Comments are that they like it. They can test themselves more stifly, and police like it because some of their worse offenders are now out on the track racing legally. Do we have something like that for our local youth to grow on? Our local law enforcement officers are working with youth in one capacity, according the Joann Gilbert in the letters-to-the editor column. Joann tells about the "Ride-around" program and an invitation to spend the night in jail, which only the braver teens could do. Thanks, Joann, for sharing your gratitude and telling us about your class. Hopefully, none of your students will wind up doing "Hard Time" as in the recent movie by that name. Coming up next month will be a display of quiltcraft in the library. The imagination, engineering, patience and diligence it must take to make some of these beautiful, warm, energy-saving, money-saving quilts has to be great. I've never seen such intricate and creative ideas in quilts as are here in the Uintah Basin. These ladies (and gentlemen, if you help) are truly master quilt builders. Whatever, child, couple or relative who receives such a gift is truly loved. It must take hours and months for some of these to be made and how many helpers are needed? Creativity abounds in any field where it is allowed to bud and flower. Whether it's in poetry, in crafts, in music, in homemaking, in occupations, avocations or other creative efforts, such courage is like a flower emitting its fragrance. A flower can't sew or draw, but it does everything it can do as well as possible. A world without creative people or local agencies would be like a community without flowers. Happy summer, everyone! May peace, joy, blessings and harmony be with you all. Sincerely, . Erma Jean P S. I appreciate your comments, and please don't forget to share them with Mr. Wallis. Thank you, and keep smiling. |
