Show Elks give $1,000 to students Four scholarships amounting to $1,000 were recently given to Basin high school graduates by the Vernal Elks Lodge, according to Art Ylin-cheta, Ylin-cheta, chairman of the Elks Scholarship committee. commit-tee. Receiving first place $350 scholarships were Marty McCarrell and Jeanne Gross. The two winners submitted their scholarship resumes in state competition and each won another $350 scholarship on the state level. Marty is the son of Cloyd and Lana McCarrell McCar-rell and he plans on attending atten-ding Utah State University. Universi-ty. Jeanne is the daughter of Earl and Norma Jean Gross and she has not decided where she will use her scholarship. Second place winners receiving $150 scholarships, scholar-ships, were from Altamont. Alta-mont. David Taylor, son of Preston and Verda Taylor wants to attend BYU. Julia Tucker, daughter of Verl and Grace Tucker wants to attend at-tend Snow College. YLncneta stated that all of the high school in the Uintah, Duchesne and Daggett districts participated par-ticipated in the Elks scholarship competition. Fourteecn applicants participated. This year the National Elks Association has contributed con-tributed $800,000 in scholarships, stated Ylin-cheta. |
