Show Team from ; ; Hill AFB ; takes first J HILL AFB A week of Peacekeeper Challenge competition competi-tion at McClellan AFB, Calif., re- suited in two first place finishes and ( two members on the command . Peacekeeper squad for the Hill ' AFB team. ( Groups often security policemen t from each base in the Air Force Logistics Command tested their ta- ( lent recently on everything from an ( obstacle course to crime scene detection. de-tection. The events are designed to ' encourage excellence in combat, ( marksmanship and tactical and pro- . fessional skills among the Air ' Force's security policemen. Each summer, the five Air i Logistics Centers in California, Oklahoma, Utah, Georgia and ( Texas and Newark AFB, Ohio, ( send squads to compete in . Peacekeeper Challenge. Out of that, the best policemen are chosen t to represent the command in an Air j . Force wide challenge. ' But to reach the command team, i each squad must compete in a num- ber of events, eight of which are ' considered major. Capt. David I Welhouse, the Hill team leader this ( year, said his men improved overall t from last year's team, including " two first place finishes in the obsta- ( cle course and the 203 grenade s launcher competition. ' "On the obstacle course, four policemen from each base ran a one ( and a half mile course with 21 ob- t stacles," the captain said. ' The four Hill standouts included ( A1C James Canniglia, SrA Joseph Gabor, A1C Charles Krejchi and SrA James Austin. They averaged C a little more than 13Va minutes g each, according to Captain Wei- house, for a command best of S3 ' minutes. ' ( To no one's surprise, the captain g said, Airman Austin took the hon- , ors in the grenade launcher. Out of ( a possible 200 points, he bagged 1 20 s to take the command. ' Airman Canniglia and Airman Gabor were chosen to carry Hill and ALFC colors to Kirtland AFB, N.M., in mid-October when each ' command will bring their elite to ( pursue the "best in the Air Force" title. "Airman Canniglia fared quite ( well in the M60 machine gun com- petition, as well as the run," Cap- : tain Welhouse said. "But I think that even though Airman Gabor did ( well in several categories, he made the command squad because of his " past experience in Peacekeeper Challenge." t From here, most of the team will ' return to security police life, while ' Airmen Canniglia and Gabor pre- (j pare for the command's squad to t arrive in Utah. AFLC will train its ' troops at Camp Williams, the Utah |
