Show RHETT ANDERSON SUE STAHLE Athletes of the Week By GARY R. BLODGETT Sports Editor He played offense only a little more than one quarter, but it was enough to earn Rhett Anderson of the Bountiful High Braves the Davis County Clipper-Little Caesar's Pizza Male Athlete of the Week award. Named as the Female Athlete of the Week was Sue Stahle, also of Bountiful High where she has been a standout volleyball player. Sue's efforts last week helped the Braves to victories over Davis and Viewmont and moved them into a first-place tie with Highland in Region Four volleyball action. She was particularly impressive dives up the middle from one and four yards. But the speedy reserve fullback really proved himself. He carried the ball 15 times for 92 yards an average of six yards per carry, his longest being about 25 yards. Until last Friday night, Rhett had been a backup to fullback Mike Bearnson. As a sophomore and junior, he came off the bench to replace Sid Smith. Usually he is used as a blocking back or defensive defen-sive linebacker. Rhett is also a catcher for the Braves' baseball team and said he "is probably a better baseball player play-er than a football player." But after last Friday's performance, that's debatable. agains the Darts, "playing her best match of the season so far," according to Coach Jill Avery. Others nominated for the Female Athlete of the Week honor were volleyballers Lis Wilkinson and Andy Harrison of Bountiful; Jodi Warhurst of Woods Cross; Heather Peel of Davis; and Gayle Wintle of Viewmont. Rhett played less than 15 minutes mi-nutes of offense against Woods Cross last week but scored two of Bountiful's three touchdowns with |
