Show It's 'do-or-die' for local prep teams mine who could be represented, but in what position in the standings. It likely will be a dog-fight between Clearfield, Clear-field, Box Elder and Bonneville depending on which teams emerge victors Friday night. It's very possible there will be a tie for a playoff berth. The State Playoffs begin, according to the Utah High School Activities Association, on Saturday, Oct. 31. But this is likely to be changed. First, it's Halloween day (or night) and second, BYU-Air Force will be pitying an early ear-ly evening game that day. My guess is that the playoff round will be moved to Friday, Oct. 30. After that, the 4-A Division championships will begin with the quarter-finals with two games on Friday, Nov. 5, and two games on Saturday, Nov. 6. Semi-finals will be noon and 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 13; and the 4-A championship games will be played at the University Uni-versity of Utah Rice Stadium. By GARY R. It's the final regular season games for all Davis County prep football teams Friday the night that will determine who will advance to the region playoffs, and those teams that will hang up their cleats for another season. It's a do-or-die situation with Bountiful and -Viewmont who clash headon at 7:30 p.m. at Bountiful. The winner of this game will advance adv-ance to the Region Four playoffs for State. The loser will be eliminated. The league-leading Highland Rams will travel to Kaysville for a regular season finale with the Davis Darts. This game will also begin . at 7:30 p.m. In the other Region Four clash, it will be Woods Cross and East "just playing for fun and the pride of winning at least one region game." Both teams are winless in league action although the Wildcats do have a non-league victory over the Ogden Tigers of Region One. This game, too, is at 7:30 p.m. p Of interest in north Davis County, Layton will try to preserve its undefeated record this year unuci new ucau toacn 10m Moore. The Lancers already have a share of the region crown and a win over Roy Friday would give the Lancers the undisputed championship. Layton will play at Roy and Clearfield and Bonneville will clash in Ogden for second and third place in Region One with both games slated for 7:30 p.m. In Region One, determining the schools to compete in the first-round playoffs is a little more difficult. Layton is a definite contender, even if the Lancers should lose to Roy Friday night. But the Clearfield-Bonneville encounter and the Box Elder-Weber clash could not only deter- |
