Show New program offered for 3-5 year olds Labor Day has come and gone, and Davis County children are back in school. This year, however, howev-er, a new group of children have become entitled to an educational program, and their parents may not be aware of it. The 1986 session of the State Legislature approved an Early Intervention Preschool Program for three to five year old developmental! delayed children. The program is administered by the State Department of Social Services, Ser-vices, Division of Services to the Handicapped. In Davis County, the Pre-school is located on the campus of Monte Vista School in Farmington. Children are eligible upon their third birthday and until they are eligible to enter kindergarten. kinder-garten. Developmentally delayed children chil-dren include those who have experienced ex-perienced delays in the development develop-ment of self-care skills, receptive and expressive language, motor skills, or learning skills. The staff at the Monte Vista Pre-school includes in-cludes special education teachers, speech therapists, physical therapists, therap-ists, social workers, and classroom aides. They provide a well integrated inte-grated multi-disciplinary program adapted individually to meet each child's needs. If you believe that your child is eligible, contact Edna Hess at the Social Services office in Layton, 776-6112 and she will process your application. Although you may be assessed a fee based upon family income and family size, no child will be ineligible due to income restrictions. |
