Seniors urged to write legislators the annual Mini-Conference on Aging to be held at the Golden Years Center on Thursday, Nov. 6. The subject of this conference will be "Legal Problems Facing the Elderly." Many important subjects sub-jects will be discussed and explained ex-plained regarding various legal matters with which the elderly should be familiar. The enxt meeting of the South Davis Chapter of AARP will be Oct. 20 at 12:30 p.m. in the Center. Everyone is invited to attend. By KATHRYN JENNINGS The South Davis Chapter of American Association of Retired Persons met at the Golden Years Center on Sept. 15. Walter Willey, president, welcomed wel-comed members and guests. The invocation was given by Bruce Frodsham and Aurelia Olsen led the pledge of allegiance. Dorothy Willey read the minutes of the previous pre-vious meeting. Mr. Willey quoted from a letter written by Cyril F. Critchfield, AARP of Washington, D.C., urging members to write their representatives rep-resentatives in the U.S. House of Representatives for special legisla tion in regard to the senior citizens. Members are requested to support sup-port legislation regarding "Family and Medical Leave Act of 1986 (HR4300). Mr. Willey has a sample letter which members can follow in writing writ-ing representatives. The Utah Legislative News Bulletin Bul-letin was also read pertaining to priorities listed by the legislators for the AARP. The Davis County Council on Aging is supporting two meetings in the Center, Oct. 16 and 23, both at 12:30 p.m., when candidates for public offices will be speaking. On Oct. 16 the local and county candidates candi-dates will speak and on the 23rd, state and federal people will speak. Everyone is urged to attend these meetings to hear the candidates. Boyd Ivory, legislative representative repre-sentative was introduced. He urged thembers to attend the meetings meet-ings to hear the candidates and to know just what they represent. A "Consumer Rights Quiz" was given by President Willey and a slide presentation, "How to Write a Wrong" was given for the program. Sam Gordon of Brigham City and state assistant director of AARP was introduced and spoke on several subjects vital to the senior citizens. All present were urged to attend |
