Or, if you're confounded by the i computer terminal that's now yours to use, part of each working 1 day, look to UTC-Salt Lake for the rescue. Classes start the week of , Sept. 30 with registration possible ,i through the first week of class. , , Introductory and advanced mic- f rocomputer classes are also being j offered as part of six completely ! new offerings from the Division of J Continuing Education, says Wil- . j liam K. J here are taught at the main Red- wood Road campus. ; The courses are: data entry I training; medical assistant; medic- ,; al receptionist, secretary and . medical transcriptionist; micro- f wave cooking; introductory and ; advanced microcomputer certifi- r cate and legal secretary. I Data entry is a one-two quarter program with a certificate of achievement awarded upon suc- cessful completion. Courses in the j sequence include: vocabulary building; buil-ding; intermediate and beginning i typewriting and introduction to ' data entry. "Data entry is the taking of any dat from sales lists to address labels and inputing it into a compu-'. compu-'. ter," says Instructor Lorraine Baker. She is the president of a .75-employee data entry firm with i clients ranging from American Ex-, Ex-, press to the State of Utah. j The medical assistant program is divided into four quarters plus a , fifth quarter internship. Classes offered this quarter include medical medic-al terminology, anatomy and intermediate inter-mediate typewriting. Duties of a medical assistant are varied, from scheduling physician appointments to assisting the doctor doc-tor with examinations and performing per-forming certain laboratory tests. Instructor Louise Thomas has lead the way in medical assistant training train-ing around the state and brings many years of practical experience to the program. Also vital to a physician today as well as his patients is the medical receptionist, secretary and medical medic-al transcriptionist. The three quarter quar-ter training program will feature three courses this fall: beginning typewriting, medical terminology-patient terminology-patient care and health insurance-financial insurance-financial records introduction. Both day and evening courses will be offered by two experienced instructors. Home Economist Jeanne Gunn says "you can learn to cook and prepare gourmet meals from start to finish" through the six-week course that demonstrates the wide range of possibilities with a microwave. micro-wave. Course topics include: demonstration demon-stration of microwave principles; vegetables-experiment; cakes-cookies; cakes-cookies; converting recipes-demonstrations recipes-demonstrations on Christmas goodies; meats-quick breads. The introductory and advanced microcomputer certificate is geared for those who use computers compu-ters during part of their regular jobs but aren't analysts, for example. Students don't need to interrupt their jobs to take a two-year course but can complete training to better familiarize them with computers. Offerings include: basic omputer concepts; microcomputer introduction; intro-duction; Lotus 1-2-3 and 1MB word perfect. The advanced certificate offers an introduction to basic programming or CIS 111 basic programming; basic computer software applications; accountants use of microcomputers and Pascal programming. The National Association of Legal Secretaries has prepared the format for the college's Legal Secretary Sec-retary I and II program. Students will learn everything from ethics in the profession to information management, man-agement, the accounting cycle, preparation of legal documents to the courts. The second phase will cover such topics as child custody and support, civil liability for support, adoption, duties to disabled persons per-sons and parentage and paternity.
