Show Tax notices to be late BOUNT1FUL Bountiful City Council had a "touch of international interna-tional flavor" spring up Wednesday Wednes-day night simply because low bid for golf carts went to a foreign manufacturer,. . , ... The low bidder was Highland Golf Company , and the make of the carts was Yamaha. The council agreed that there is nothing wrong with Yamaha they are well built-machines for many purposes but Councilman Harold Shafter voted against the bid because they are "foreign-made "foreign-made machines." "Maybe I'm wrong in my thinking, but 1 can't support fore ign trade when our American manufacturers are going out of business," said Councilman Shafter. So the vote was 4-1 to approve the purchase of two utility carts for a total of $7,050 and 10 two-man golf carts for a total of $21,850. City Manager Tom Hardy asked if local (Salt Lake area) businesses should be penalized because they buy, sell and repair foreign-made vehicles. Councilman Jerry Lawrence concluded that we know Yamaha is foreign-made, but we are not certain cer-tain about the other machines up for bid. "They may or may not be American-made carts," he said. |
