The meeting was called to an abrupt Close when lightening struck a power line and left the council in the dark, kj 1 By KATHRYN JENNINGS Farmington city council met Sept. 24 with councilman Grant Ungerman, mayor protem until Mayor Robert Arbuckle was able to take over. Property owners and parents concerned over the safety of their children crossing Shepard Lane, going to the Knowlton Elementary School and returning home, were present. Ron Whitehead reviewed the many problems of speeding cars as the children tried to cross the busy street. Marsha Hatch and other parents pa-rents also requested a petition for a crosswalk in that area. This is an unusually fiazardous crossing. Councilman Paul White reported that just one year ago, parents peti- tioned the city to request the state for this same crosswalk safety. The state is willing to install crosswalks and lights, but only if the city finances crossing guards. The council finally decided to refer re-fer the matter to the Public Safety Committee to review the problem with citizens in the audience. - The council amended bond agreements 11-4-401.2 and 11-31-305, to make sure curb and gutter projects are completed. Bond is to be $1,000. Bob Scott, city planner reviewed the site plan for a cellular One Transmission Tower. This tower will be located on property at 532 West 100 North, just 100 feet behind be-hind the Lagoon Restaurant. This is a 150 foot telephone transmission transmis-sion tower. The council upheld the decision of the Planning Commission, approving the site plan for building this tower. Richard Shipley, chairman of the Planning Commission and Bob Scott, City Planner, reviewed the preliminary Land Use Plan, prepared pre-pared by the Planning Commission. Commis-sion. The future growth in the city was reviewed, but with many questions by the councilmen and no decision was reached. A motion was finally made to hold a joint working session with the Planning Commission to discuss dis-cuss details on the location of commercial, com-mercial, industrial and multiple dwelling uses. The council discussed approving the J.M. Montgomery Engineering Services agreement.
