Show Golf cart controversy Davis County tax notices will be later than usual this year, according to Ludeen Gibbons, county auditor. Notices usually sent by Oct. 1 will be sent around Nov. 1, Mrs. Gibbons said. Clearfield City and Davis County School District are responsible for the delay. Clearfield City planned to incorporate a franchise tax for some new utility poles in the area. But citizens recently protested pro-tested the franchise tax and requested a property tax increase instead. The change in taxation delayed the city getting tax information to the county. A misunderstanding between tax rate and tax revenue prevented pre-vented the Davis County School District from getting its tax information in on time. A two week advertisement in local newspapers mistakenly announced a public hearing concerning a 3.8 percent revenue increase for the district. Actually the revenue increase is 6.4 percent and the rate increase is 3.8 percent. Now the school board must advertise two more weeks in local newspapers about the revenue increase and then hold a public hearing. "The county cannot proceed with tax notices until all entities have met the requirements," Mrs. Gibbons said. |
