ITALIAN BEEF 4 to 6 lb. beef roast Salt, pepper, garlic salt, oregano 3 green peppers I sq. butter or margarine 1 can 10 oz. beef gravy 2 cups water PLACE MEAT and seasonings, poppers, butter and gravy with water, wa-ter, in a covered baking pan and bake about 3 hours at 3(H) degrees, until meat is tender. FRENCH BREAD 2 Tbsp. veast ' cup warm water 1 tsp. sugar 2 cups hot water 3 Tbsp. simar I Tbsp. salt Halloween is a special time of the year for the Kalee Allen family and she and her children love to prepare their favorite foods for the special occasion. I Tbsp. shortening, heaping flour DISSOLVE yeast in warm water with sugar. Mix hot water, sugar, salt and shortening, cool and add to yeast mixture. Stir in Hour gradually gradual-ly to about 7 cups or a bit more, dough should be soft. Mix thoroughly thor-oughly and let rest for 10 minutes in bowl. Now as dough rises, punch down 5 times, every 10 minutes. At the end of this time, divide dough into two or four portions and let rise another 10 minutes. Roll out each portion as for a jelly roll and place on a greased cookie sheet after rolling roll-ing into a sheet and rerolling as a loaf. Let rise about I hour and bake for 40 minutes at 375 degrees. THE DOUGH can be made into two large loaves or 3 or 4 small loaves, or use for regular rolls or barbecue buns. APPLE SHEET PIE 2': cups flour I Tbsp. sugar I tsp. salt I cup Crisco shortening I 'egg yolk Milk to make 1S cup with egg yolk MIX DRY ingredients and cut in shortening, mixing well. Now put the egg yolk into a cup. add enough milk to make 2i cup and add to Hour mixture, mixing into a dough. Roll out half of the dough and put on a greased cookie sheet, sprinkle with corn Hake crumbs. Now slice about 10 large apples over the dough. Mix 1 cup sugar and 1 tsp. cinnamon! SPRINKLE sugar and cinnamon over the apples in the pan. Now roll out remainder of crust dough and place over the apples. Make slits over the top. Beat the egg white and spread over the top of crust. Bake at 375 degrees for 40 to 45 minutes. Make a thin powdered sugar icing and dirzzle over the top. Cut into squares and serve hot or cold. Kurt and Kallee Allen and their . three children. Audra 8. Monica 5 and Lance 3 years, moved to their new home in Farmington several months ago. ' : i BOTH KALLEE and Kurt grew up in Cache Valley, where Kurt graduated from Utah State. They lived in Tucson, Ariz, for three years where Kurt was a mechanical mechanic-al engineer for IBM. Kallee said, "We missed the mountains and the beautiful change of seasons, so moved back and love it here in Farmington." KURT IS presently employed at Hercules. Kallee is a busy mother and homemaker. but does work part time. She has enjoyed decorating decorat-ing their new home and enjoys cooking for family and friends, loves to try new recipes. Kallee said that her mother and also mother-in-law are both great cooks, preparing excellent meals and they have shared many recipes, re-cipes, but she has also added many of her own and the recipes she shares are some of her favorites, kj |
