Show Old-FashionecT Pinks.' The wonderful carnations at the Westminster show make one think of the relations betwe? "carnation" and "pink" as names of flowers and as names of colors. "Pink." the color, clearly comes from the flower, which was perhaps so called from Its small Blze "pinkie" In Scotland meaning anything small, particularly the little linger and small beer But "carnation" "carna-tion" is a more complicated case. The j ;olor is named from the flower now. j out the flower-name seems to mean j flesh-tinted. One variety was known as "horse-flesh." But Spenser speaks of "coronations, " and some derive the name fiom "corona." a crown, carnation carna-tion having been favorite flower for wreaths. London Chronicle.
