Show Interchange shifted on Jordanelle map Under new state highway plans, a proposed interchange linking Park City and Kamas with U.S. 40, east of Park City, will be shifted closer to the intersection which now exists with 40 and Utah Highway 248. The Utah Transportation Commission Commis-sion unanimously approved the change at its meeting Aug. 2. The change is part of an extensive plan to change highways in Summit and Wasatch Counties to accommodate accommo-date the proposed Jordanelle Dam. A large portion of existing U.S. 40 (running from 1-80 to Heber) will be inundated by the reservoir. As a result, the alignment of U.S. 40 will be shifted to the west of the reservoir. According to State Transportation District 2 Director Blaine Kay, the new patn ot 40 would begin to separate from the old route about -14 mile from the present Hwy. 248U.S. 40 intersection. Previous plans called for that intersection also to be moved about 3,000 feet further south. The interchange would be a junction between the new alignment of U.S. 40, a new stretch of Hwy. 248, and a new highway to be constructed running east from Kamas. Last week, the commission shifted the interchange back north only 1,000 feet from the present intersection. This was done, said Kay, to avoid building a long railroad overpass and to skirt impact on the Stauffer Chemical Co. loading area. Kay also said when Hwy. 248 shifts, about 12 mile of the present road will be abandoned as highway. |
