Show Wasatch Telemark Series holds first race at ParkWest Resort The telemark is taking a back seat to the parallel turn at the Park City Town Races this season. Since the handicap system was abolished, the cross-country class is expected to be dominated by those with their heels securely fastened. But wait, diehard telemarkers. 1 There's a glimmer of hope on the horizon. It's the 1985 Wasatch Telemark Series. Now that the Wasatch Citizen's v Series no longer includes downhill events, a separate series of races had been started devoted exclusively to the telemark turn. . The first race in the series was i held last weekend at ParkWest. The i second is to be held Sunday on the f Park City Ski Area's Clementine run. Vi Instead of an elaborate ranking i system, there are only four classes. ; novice men, novice women, expert I women and expert men. In the ParkWest race, first prize among the novice women went to Ginger Herbold. Park City's Joan Skinner was fourth. The top prize finishers in the expert women's class, included several names familiar in Park City. Kay Kucera finished first, followed by Ginny Lee Sprague and Lea Turner. The winner of the expert men's race was Steve Baeder, followed by Jim Poore, Charlie Hazzard and Rob Landis. Sunday's race is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Registration will be held from 8 to 9 a.m. The format is dual slalom. There is a $5 entry fee per person and lift prices will be reduced. The third race in the series is scheduled for Jan. 26 at Alta. |
