Show Marv Fleming? Does he ski? J'.i IHi t.Ai-Mt ifmli Mil ill Marv Fleming was there. You know, the guy with five Super Bowl Rings. Stein Eriksen was there too. That's the guy who won all those medals in the 1952 Winter Olympics. And so was Bob Theobald, the hot dogger who talks about aerial trams these days. And Spence Eccles, the banker, and Vic Ayers of Gump.... Why, Park City officialdom was even represented by the likes of Bill Coleman and Bob Wells. It may have looked like a big party, and it was. But it was more than that. It was the annual fundraiser put on by Jim Gaddis to help support young ski racers. Gaddis is the president of Utah Ski Racers Foundation and this 12th year he has held some kind of fundraising event. , This year it was at Deer Valley, with a dual slalom race on the Little Reb ' run" 'followed by "dinner,'anl cocktails at the Snow Park Lodge. Gaddis says about 85 people showed up for the race itself, with about 175 for the dinner. He estimates that the event grossed close to $15,000. Money raised at previous events has gone to the Park City Ski Team, to Row mark Ski Academy and to select individual skiers judged to be in need, he says. "We are also trying to build up a fund that will sustain itself in the future." And if you thought this year's event was a party, get a load of this: Next year's fundraising event will be a charter ski trip to Europe. Gaddis says the trip will be restricted to the first 200 people and he's confident he'll fill every seat. Oh, by the way. He says the trip will include a visit to Courchevel, Park City's sister city. |
