Show No need to apologize Editor: As I sit reading the local paper this week, a lot of different things come to mind, some good, some bad. This is usually not the case because I enjoy reading the local paper. There are times, though, when I disagree with certain articles and usually I just sit and get mad and yell at my husband and yell at my children. Instead of yelling this week I decided to write a letter, something that I have only done once in my entire life. First, Mr. Hampshire, I for one read your paper and I know a lot ofu people must be reading it because) when I go to the P.O. to pick up the mail, there aren't as many papers thrown in the trash as there used to;: be. Now, that's saying something. Second, I did not find Teri Gomes' ' column to be as offensive as the Chamber and the Main St. Merch-:i ants have made it out to be. Don't you think Ms. Gomes is aware that ' she is living in a tourist town and insulting tourists is hardly' some- v thing she would purposely do? '' Also, her columns are always written tactfully and of times I find tears in !l my eyes as well as laughter from her remarks. I don't believe; Mr. Hampshire, that you need apologize for her column. - Third, hooray for Nancy McComb fighting the school board on which she sits as a member. I strongly support her views on not creating a new elementary school and believe that we as taxpayers should not just sit and not say anything if we disagree. We need to let the school board know how we feel or we will be having to pay increased taxes to support another school that may not be needed at this time. Let Nancy talk let's find out more. A few weeks ago Mr. Mitchell listed several reasons to build another elementary school, none of which I , would support. I have three children in the school district at present and, yes, there will be a problem in a few years but I don't believe building another new school at this time is the answer. Listen to Nancy, Mr. ' M itchell, she knows what she's " V( talking about after all, doesn't she have' ' six '"children in1" the"' school ' district? One last comment before I turn off my typewriter. I really don't expect the Park Record to be the Los Angeles Times. It has improved over the last few years and I know your readers aren't disappointed. Maybe sometimes they disagree with some of your writers, but I'm sure they aren't looking for a major piece of literature. If people want the Times, let them go buy it. Right? You're moving in the right direction. Linda Martin |
