Show I 3) 1 51 , "'-4tS -'-K APPEALING COMBINATION: Three Park City chickitas, Leslie Luyken, K.T. Thompson and Jill Snyder, won a few points from the judges in last year's air band contest posing as The Coconuts. Air band madness returns to the Cowboy Bar March 4 March Madness isn't a sickness, although some might consider it to be slightly deranged: It is this year's version of KPCW's annual air band extravaganza. Monday marks the start of the lip-synching fever, which will continue each Monday night through March 25 at the Cowboy Bar. Those who are familiar with ' the history of air banding in Park City will recognize this as a return to the original format that calls for three preliminary competitions leading up to a grand finale runoff between the top bands of previous weeks. The 'extended competition gives the "musicians" "music-ians" a chance to fine tune their acts and gain a local cult following. The air band concerts are a fundraiser for Park City's community com-munity radio station and are being coordinated by Tom Wil-lett. Wil-lett. There is an entry fee of $.10 for the preliminaries and bands must pre-register," Willett said. (Call and leave a name and phone number at KPCW, 649-9004 or at the Cowboy Bar, 649-4146.) Each band must provide a cassette tape of eight to 10 minutes of music for the performance, he added. The air bands will be judged on originality, lip synching, choreography choreo-graphy and costumes. Entry fees for the finals will be waived for preliminary winners, he said. The first preliminary will be held at 9 p.m. (Contestants must arrive by 8 p.m.) In addition to the air band contest Dr. Bop's band will be on hand to keep the dance floor busy. |
