He beat Peter Dodge of Burlington, Vermont, in the final elimination round. David Stapleton of Aspen, Colorado, finished third and Cary Adgate of Boyne Falls, Michigan, finished fourth. On Sunday the skiers went head to head in five rounds of elimination in dual format slalom racing. The format is this: The first skier across the finish starts the clock, the second stops it. After two heats, the racer with the greater time advantage goes on to the next round. To make it to the final round of competition, a racer must make 10 runs down the course and beat five opponents. This method of elimination, as well as the two six-foot jumps the racers have to clear, make it an exciting race to watch.
