Show Jake Rhine Featured in Railroad BaHefin A snapshot of Jake Rhine, of Ogden, Union Pacific conductor, giving tho engineer a signal is one of the features of tho recent issue of "Our Family Bulletin," a Union Pacific publication. Beneath the snapshot is a thumb nail history of the veteran railroad man who is widely acquainted in Ogden. Og-den. The sketch' of his career says that Jake Rhine was born near Kokomo, Indiana, in 1851. He started carrying water In Pennsylvania when a small boy but later returned to school. In 1S7-1 he started work for the Santa Fe as brakeman, running between Yu-tan Yu-tan and Dodge City. He was made yardmastcr at Wichita in 1S76. On April 1, 1877, Jake Rhine entered the employ of the Union Pacific as freight conductor between Ogden and Green River and he was given a pas-, senger run In 18S3. He is still "doing business at the old stand." |
