Show Will Be Present at Demonstrations Demonstra-tions Resulting From Experiments Experi-ments With Sheep I. F. Knelpp, district forester at Ogden -prill depart during the early part of next week to witness a series of demonstrations which will be conducted con-ducted "J the Government Experiment station at Du Bois, Wyoming. Three years ago, Mr. Knelpp stated the government stocked the experiment experi-ment station with 2,000 head of sheep of varieties which has been found to be best adapted to conditions of the intermountaln states. From this flock, various strains have been eliminated, others have been added, and a constant change in the blood of the sheep has been gone through, for the purpose of evolving a perfect sheep for the intermountaln country and the western states in general. gen-eral. Farm reports indicate the experi-J ments have been highly successful and several distinct strains, showing up best in productivity, quality of wool and meat, and other important points, have ben evolved. Because of the fact that the experiment experi-ment station had reached a point where a series of demonstrations could I bo given in a manner that would do credit to the experiment station, invitations invi-tations have been extended to sheep men and Bheep growers of the west. Professor TV. C. Coffey of Kansas, recognized throughout the west as one of tho best authorities on sheep, Dr. George R. Rommell, chief of the bureau bur-eau of animal industry, together with representatives of practically every agricultural college of the west will be present at the exhibition which will be held at Du Bois, it is stated. Various methods which have proved tho most successful in handling, feeding feed-ing and breeding tf sheep will bo explained ex-plained to thoso present, whilo tho shearing of the sheep will act as a portion of the exhibition. James T. Jardlno, of Logan, newly appointed director of the Oregon Agricultural Ag-ricultural college will be present at the event, which is declared to be a red letter day In tho annals of western Bheep men. The party will be at Du Bois May 31 to June3, Mr Knelpp stated. |
