Show CALLS FOR SIM OF 150,000 County N Commissioner Martin P. Brown announced details of a huge and comprehensive county road building build-ing campaign for this season. The program pro-gram will entail tho expenditure of approximately ap-proximately $150,000 and, if completed complet-ed according to all plans, will placo the county foremost in the stato in good roads. One-half of this amount will bo raised by the county through the state road 1 and mills tax appropriation ap-propriation and it is proposed to ask the stato for the other half. Mr. Brown this morning said prospects of securing secur-ing this amount from the stato woro good. Government aid will be asked for tho improvement of tho road to Hooper, which is officially designated jis a post road, and as such comes in tho class entitled to government aid. The county will pay ono-half of this particular cost, the total having been estimated at approximately $40,000. It Is planned, If financial assistance is forthcoming, to start tho building immediately. Labor will bo scarce later in tho season and tho work may have to be somewhat lessened then, but again, when harvesting is finished, full forces of workmen will be re-employed. The two most important projects of tho whole program are tho hard surfacing sur-facing of tho state road from the north city limits to North Ogden and the repairing of tho same road from the south city limits to the Davis county lino, and the construction of the Hooper road. Out of tho budget, approximately $14,750 will bo spent for the improvement improve-ment of "side" roads throughout tho county. Theso roads are not designated desig-nated as post roads but bear much travel, nevertheless. Open Cache Load. An interesting feature of the program pro-gram will be the completion of tho road through Ogden Valley to Cache Valley over tho Cache Valley divide north of Liberty. This road will join the highway being built on tho other side of Cache Valley and will open an important and much desired route from valley to valley. For scenic in- torest, as well as general utility, this road has been desired for many years. It is proposed to spend $9000 on this stretch. Tho completo program of road building build-ing includes nine dlffcront projects. The Hooper road will cost between $3000 and $4000 per mile, the total approximating $40,000. This will bo a macadam road. Tho Eden -Liberty-Cacho Valley road will cost approximately $9000. This will bo a hard surfaco gravel road. Tho Wilson Lano road will bo improved im-proved near tho sugar factory and west at a cost of about $5000. Tho Ogden-Plaln City road will be improved at a cost of about $4000. The West Weber and Warren road will bo improved at a cost of about $5000. The Ogden Canyon -Huntsville road will bo improved at a cost of about $7000. Tho state road south to Davis county coun-ty will bo improved, Including patching patch-ing with cement and surfacing with tarvia at a cost of about $4000. Tho South Weber road will be improved, im-proved, gravel surface laid and repairs re-pairs made, costing about $2000. Tho north city limits to North Ogden Og-den stato road will also bo re-surfaced. There is special need for making a new road to Hooper, Mr. Brown says. This road has had little attention for many years despite the fact that Hooper is one of tho most important county towns and that there is heavy travel over it during the whole year. Tho roads tributary to tho Wilson Lane sugar factory is also deserving of attention as there are thousands of tons of beets hauled over it yearly. It is understood that Davis county intends asking for $2 from the stato for each $1 it appropriates for building build-ing and improving the stato road which traverses 1L Davis county is chiefly built , around the state road and a largo percentage of tho travel which passes over it is stato travel so this is considered a fair proposal. |
