Show I i WASHINGTON AVENUE 1 PAVING. ; . Last December the city completed ! the South Washington paving. Today 1 8 i long stretches of that highway are I 1 filled wtih holes, where the surfacing ; 8 , has disappeared and the concrete is I 1 exposed. I There is something radically defec-1 1 I tive in this -work, but the Standard 1 : does not attempt to fix responsibility 1 8 and will not do so until a complete I I ; investigation is made. I i No asphalt surface properly laid ac- ' cording to standard specification, should wear out in less than four months, even under the heaviest kind I of traffic, j Our city officials are inclined to i ! consider the matter with reserved I judgment, but the faulty work should be kept constantly in mind until tho contractor has repaired tho defects. I And there should be no patched job. j If any great area is found to be coated with less than the required thickness i of asphalt, or If the material is life- less and not up to requirement, the I whole district should be resurfaced, i Abutting property owners, who are 1 being asked to pay over $72,000 for i this piece of paving, have a right to ; ! feel that they have been outrageously I dealtwith. j Unless there is a more plausible cx- i j J planation than has so far been given, i tho proporty owners will bo justified Jt I in demanding a careful prying into the ' I; paving from the time it was started up J I to the present, t nn |
