Show oo CGL01D 1M1 GNFJI B RELEASE Florence Brien, a negress, was exonerated exon-erated in the municipal court of a charge of assault with a deadly weapon, weap-on, and given her liberty. She was defended in court by Attorney Joseph E. Evans and the evidtfnee introduced proved to tho satisfaction of the court that she shot her alleged husband, Melvln Brien, but that the shooting was in self-defense. The shooting occurred oc-curred April 5 in front of the Oregon Short Line commissary building at the Union depot, Brien receiving a bullet wound in tho mouth. Brien was in court and his admission that ho threatened to striko his wife with a large wrench was the main evidence evi-dence that brought about the latter's discharge and release. Other witnesses for the prosecution were Joseph Gale, Henry Denkers, E. S. Von Mohr and Patrolman O. H. Mohlman. |
