Show CUBAN PRESIDENT ASKS WAR BONDS HAVANA, April 19. President Men-ocal, Men-ocal, In a long message to congress, asks for authorization of a $30,000,000 bond issue. Ho proposes to uso the money for the payment of indemnities for losses caused by tho revolution, for expenses of tho war with Germany and co-operation with the United States. The president gives a long list of articles on which ho proposes to place a rovenuo stamp tax for the payment of Interest on tho bond issue. He suggests sug-gests that such bonds could bo used as part collateral on a loan from the United States government if needed later. The list Includes stock exchange ex-change operations, commercial pnpor, bills of retailers and ship clearance papers. Tho message declares that Cuba "Is not a lukewarm ally which rejects sacrifices sac-rifices and begrudges efforts in aid of tho common cause." |
