Show WATCHING THOSE WHO ARE SNEERING. Tho Butto Miner hits tho nail squarely on the head, when it says that those who are attempting to backcap patriotic demonstrations by asking, "Why don't the demonstrators enlist?" have no right to ask that question until they too havo enlisted. The Miner, evidently, has found a nest of un-American plotters, for it says : "Detractors, snecrers and pacifists notwithstanding, it Is eminently proper prop-er for Butte to show tho sentiment of real patriotism by means of tho great patriotic demonstration planned in the mining city for this evening. Thero is no reason on earth why Butto should not be considered just as loyal and patriotic as any other American community, for It is. In every Instance In-stance Butte has shown that to be a positive fact. Sneerers and detractors and seditious talkers havo been running run-ning around thinking they have an i unanswerable argument In the question ques-tion which they have tho gall to address ad-dress to loyal American citizens, "If yVm are so loyal, why do you not enlist?" en-list?" "First of all the government has not yet called for volunteers, but the process of organizing a great army and navy is being -worked out. Secondly, Sec-ondly, the one asking such a question evidently never means to enlist and therefore has no right to question the patriotism, intent and motives of any loyal American citizen. Thirdly, tho more talk of that kind there is, the more it becomes necessary that a home guard will have to bo formed to keep an eye on those making sneering insinuations and talking seditiously, se-ditiously, and otherwise 'shooting of their mouths' in an attempt to cover up their unwillingness to aid the government gov-ernment in any way, either by enlisting, enlist-ing, by patriotic sanction or somo other manner" nn |
