Show GILBERT TO MEET CHRISJEORGE Ten Round Headliner at Salt Lake Club Tonight Creates Interest. SALT LAKE, April 9. Much inter-ost inter-ost has been aroused in the Young dllbertTchrls Georgo bout, which will bo tho ten-round hoadliner of the Manhattan Man-hattan club show tonight in tho Grand theater. George lost last Monday to Gilbert by an unintentional foul, but while that fight lasted it was apparent to all that Gilbert had nothing on the battling Grcok. Tom Painter ,of Evanston, the Veteran Vet-eran referee and prominent sportsman, sports-man, will bo the rcfeiec in tonight's bout The rivalry between the two scrappors is so intense that Hardy Downing didn't feel inclined to act as the third man in the ring. He has required both Gilbert and George to put up a $50 forfeit apiece, and in case thero is a foul committed tho money will go to the figbtor who is fouled. This, it is believed, will make the fighters go at eaeh other in a little more safo and sane manner than they did a week ago. Gilbert realizes that he has no walkaway walk-away with the Greok and spent last woek in tho gymnasium and on tho road training to go the ontiro ton frames at a breakneck pace. George has put himsolf in the best of condition condi-tion and confidently boliovos ho will stop Gilbert for the full count of ten. The semi-headlines will bo an eight-tilt eight-tilt brawl botwoon Jess Oren, the fast local welter, and Eddie Head of San Francisco This fight should bo equally equal-ly as thrilling as the headliner if Head is able to live up to his reputation Oren has been a sensational battler in his last few appearances at tho Grand and is much bettor than ho over was. Head was dropped by Red Nowey a couple of weeks ago at the Manhattan club, but he says it is not a habit with him to tako the count and boliovos he will win respect from tho fans by clipping clip-ping Joss Oren's winning spurt. Kid Dutch and Jack Brunsoll, two slam-bang battlers, will bo In tho six rounder. The preliminary will feature Fren-chy Fren-chy Boyd and Slim Warden. This fight should put the fans into a happy mood. Boyd has long boon tho comedian in tho local fight ring and ho has run into a rival-in Slim Warden, who seems to get about as many laughs per appearance appear-ance af Boyd Frank Newman of the Pantages the-ator the-ator has promised to bring Bob Fltz-simmons, Fltz-simmons, former heavyweight champion cham-pion of tho world, and Bob's son to tho Grand tonight to be introduced. Bob will probably need no introduction to local fight fans and all will be glad again to see the long-armed ox-champ. |
