Show rami at LOMTIS Naval Lieutenant Thornton, in charge of recruiting at the Ogden station, sta-tion, -which is the headquarters for northern Utah and parts 'of Nevada and Idaho, left early this morning for Brigham City to interview a number of young men who desire to enlist for the national defense. Sergeant E. F. Stodmeister went to Rock Springs, Wyo., for the same purpose. pur-pose. Reports from that section indicate in-dicate that many young men, some now employed in the coal mines, desire de-sire to enlist in either the army or. navy. Lieutenant Thornton, who has been here only a few days, already has won a large number of personal friends. He is a graduate of the nation's naval academy at Annapolis and is of the frank and honest, genial type so common com-mon in the navy. When he talks to eligible young men concerning the opportunities op-portunities for education, travel, enjoyment en-joyment and usefulness in Uncle Sam's navy, his speech has the persuasive per-suasive power of an evangelist. He is a very young man himself, but has seen much of the world and was assigned as-signed to recruiting work because of his personal popularity. nn |
