Show flairs iiets CHICAGO, April 20. Upward nights of wheat values surpassed today all previous records. The September delivery de-livery soared nearly 13 cents at one time from a low point reached on a temporary setback. Reports of big purchases of that option for the entente en-tente set the prico to $1.89, as against $1.79 to $1.79 1-4 at yesterday's finish. At the outset the market displayed a tendency to react from yesterday's advances. When the shorts attempted to cover, however, they found the market mar-ket temporarily bare of offerings. A stampede ensued, which was intensified intensi-fied by reports of sleet and ice in the southwest. Nevertheless, after tho Immediate Im-mediate wants of shorts had been met, the market fell back sharply, September Septem-ber dropping 5 1-2 cents from top figures. fig-ures. Opening prices for wheat, which ranged from a 3-cent decline to a 3-8-cent advance, with May at $2.39 3-4 and July at $2.04 to $2.06, were followed after a considerable interval by a jump to $2.43 for May and $2.11 for July. It was at this point that September reached $1.89. Great nervousness and many quick fluctuations ensued, chiefly chief-ly setbacks. Corn ascended with wheat to new high price records. Later the market eased off on profit taking by holders. After opening 3-4 cents lower to 1 cent advance, prices scored gains in some cases of 4 cents before beginning to react. Oats had no independent action, trade was only fair and advances relatively rela-tively small. |
