Elimination of H championships In amateur athletic 'H contests during the war and the hold- 'H ing of competitions on such a basis ! as to Interest all citizens in system- l atic exercise for the improvement of !H their physical condition were advocat- H cd in resolutions adopted here today H at a meeting of representatives from H leading amateur sport governing bod- H The resolutions slated that the H "youth of the nation should be en- ,H couraged to become physically fit and IH mentally alert and that ev- H cry effort should bo made to Interest H all citizens in the improvement of H their physical condition by systematic H exercise and participation in sport, but H that by reason of the state of war now H existing it Is not advisable to hold 'H championship events on any date sub- (H sequent to a call of the government 'H for volunteers or the enactment and 'H operation of a bill for compulsory ser- H "And that In place or cnampionsnjp h events, competitions should be held, in H which certificates instead of tho usual m prizes or medals should be the only i H award made to the winners, such cer- i.H tlficates to state that by reason of ex- H isting conditions the winners shall not ,H be recognized as the champion for the M year in tho sport for which tho com- ,H petition Is held. ,H "And that all athletic meetings m shall be conducted as patriotic demon- H atrations and should be held for the m purpose of raising funds for the Am- m erican Red Cross."
