On all the fronts around Veidun the Germans are heavily heav-ily bombarding French positions, especially es-pecially those occupied by the French in their last attack around Le Mort Homme, northwest of the fortress, and in the sector from the eastern bank of the Meuse to Fort Vaux. No infantry engagements have taken tak-en place around Verdun, although Paris reports the occupation of a portion por-tion of a crater made by a German mine in the Argnne forest. The Teutons in east Galicia near Popovogora went on the offensive against the, Russians, but Petrogrnd asserts their efforts were without result. re-sult.
