Show GFllD MASTER IS EUREKA IN Salt Lake, Jan. 20. Two hundred prominent Masons of the city and state were present last night when Charles Clifton Griggs of Eureka was installed as grand master of the grand lodge, F and A. M.f of Utah. The other officers, elected with Mr Griggs at the afternoon session of the forty-fifth forty-fifth annual communication of the grand lodge were also Installed. The retiring grand master, William J. Shealy, conducted the ceremonies. Following are the new officers of the grand lodge: Charles C. Griggs, grand master; Charles F. Jennings, deputy grand master; Herbert R. MacMillan, senior grand warden; Louis L. Baker, junior grand warden; Richard L. Conely, grand treasurer; Freeman A. McCarty, grand secretary; secre-tary; S. H. Goodwin, grand chaplain; John E. Carver, grand orator; Gerald R. Yearnsley, grand lecturer; James L. Cattron, grand marshal; Douglas A. Baxter, grand pursuivant; Harry M. Rasmussen, grand standard bearer; bear-er; Hugo Deprezin, grand sword bearer, bear-er, Edward D. Wickins, senior grand deacon; John H. Tempest junior grand deacon; Winn L. Eddy, senior grand steward; Julian C. Hardy, junior jun-ior grand steward; Daniel Dunn, grand tyler. A feature of the installation was the presentation of the grand master's signet ring to Mr. Griggs by Mr. Shealy. Mr. Griggs is the twenty-third twenty-third grand master to wear the ring, which he will present to his succes- sor at the completion of his term of office. The past grand master's jewel jew-el was presented to Mr. Shealy by James W. Cherry. Past Master Hugo Deprezin of Tintic lodge No. 9, of which the new grand master is a. member, presented the grand master's apron to Mr. Griggs. Immediately after the installation ceremonies the Christopher Diehl memorial me-morial tablet was unveiled. A committee com-mittee of past grand masters, consisting con-sisting of A. S. Chapman, F C Schramm and Abbott R Heywood, was in charge of the program Mr. Heywood delivered an inspiring memorial me-morial address. A banquet, tendered the grand lodge by the four Masonic lodges of Salt Lake, concluded the annual meeting. Harry S. Harper welcomed the grand lodge on behalf of tho Salt Lake Masons and introduced Past Grand Master William J Shealy as toastmaster. The speakers were Grand Master Charles Clifton Griggs, Deputy Grand Master Charles F. Jennings, Jen-nings, Past Grand Master George H. Dern and the Rev. -J. E. Carver, grand orator and past master of Weber lodge at Ogden. The speakers outlined out-lined the work to be done during the coming year. |
