Show ISTEI POULTRY IS NOT THOROUGHLY lltlllfp The round-up meeting of the members mem-bers of the Weber county branch of the Utah Poultrymen's association, in connection with the poultry show being conducted In the Parry building, build-ing, was rield last night in the courtroom court-room of Judge N. J Harris at the county courthouse. It waac well attended at-tended and the poultrymon were given giv-en an excellent lecture by W. L. Russell Rus-sell of Ottumwn, Iowa, judgo of the show. Othor speakers also wero heard and brought out the importance ot the poultry industry to tho nation With regard to preparing poultry for exhibition punposes, Mr Russell stated that the eastern poultry men had conditioning learned so well that they could make fine looking birds out of those that were really of poor class, while tho western chicken fanciers fan-ciers took chances on having really fine birds lose prizes on account of poor conditioning. "The trouble with you westerners," he said, "is that you are sadly lacking on condition. You do not take the necessary care and time with your feeding Neither do you spend time enough with the birds in the, growing period. The show birds hero, I will say, are a fair average in every othor respect, but the fact that they are not in prime condition tends to keep them below the stnndard they would reach under the right kind of treatment treat-ment I am speaking from the score card requirements as established by the national association " Following this frank statement, Mr. Russel discussed the problem of chicken chick-en raising and conditioning in a way that his hearers might benefit from his wide experience. With the present show, Mr Russell has acted as a judge 651 times and scored approximately approxi-mately 260,000 birds. Yesterday, according to W L. Bramwoll, president 0f the state association, as-sociation, nearly G00 school children attended the show us guests of the association and he expected more than 2000 to attend beforo th0 end of the week. The invitation to the children chil-dren Is effective in the forenoon, from 9 to 12 o'clock. At the show yesterday afternoon, loving cups were awarded as follows. Sweepstakes pen Single comb Rhode Island Reds, all classes competing, com-peting, Wilford Bramwoll Sweepstakes cockerel Dark Cornish, Cor-nish, W. W. Browning. Sweepstakes cock Single comb Rhode Island Red, George A Poulter. Sweepstakes pullet White Orpington. Orping-ton. J. S. Baxter. Other special prizes awarded probably prob-ably will be announced tonight. |
