Though made apparently t steel, they were as light alniOGt as a cloth cap or a straw hat Round the Inside, where the helmet touches, wa3 a ring of metal "leaf mrlngB" bound with leather, which 'ightly clipped the head to keep the nelmet on without heavy prriir. The braaa spike or knob that crowned the helmet was made useful as well as ornamental There were large holes in it, which gave very good ventilation to the Inside of the helmet much better bet-ter than the pinholes that are supposed sup-posed to ventilate a uowlor In fact, the Germans seem to have succeeded in making a really comfortable Dowl er out of paper-thin iel. j nn
